bookbinder poetry & the rain-drenched writer (collab #1)

Once upon a time, a rain-drenched Evelyn and a sunshine-splashed Emma decided to take an assortment of books from their skyscraper book piles and make poems out of the titles.

You may be wondering—why books? Why poems? What is found poetry?

🎶 We have answers 🎶

  1. Books are beautiful and are also reincarnated trees, so that’s cool.
  2. Poems make you Feel Things [and poetry-writing is one of my only skills. Help.]
  3. Found poetry = taking little teensy snippets of words from completed literary works and constructing them into an original poem. [It sounds like fancy plagiarizing, but it’s not. Look it up.]

If you’re ever stuck wandering by the calamitous corner of Writer’s Block, found poetry can lead you back to the paths of waterfalling words. [It works for me 99 percent of the time, but if you’re a novelist whose creative juices are all dried up and you try bookbinder poetry and become addicted and then become a Bookbinder Poet Extraordinaire and never touch novel writing again—I apologize ahead of time.]

My poems:

come celebrate with me
the roar on the other side,
the luxury of words,
the tiny journalist,
the naming of names.
a tangled web
after many years,
poetry for the earth:
my garden.
the lightest, heaviest things:
the view from Saturday,
each little bird that sings,
a wind in the door.

The rain-drenched writer’s poems: (!!)

walk to beautiful.
hope was here
with
every fixed star;
all along you were blooming.
the borrowers:
catching their talk in a box.
wonder
inside out & back again
with
all the light we cannot see.

That last poem of Evelyn’s is my favorite. :’)

A few weeks ago, Eve and I had the ABSOLUTELY WILDLY AMAZING experience of getting to meet The One and Only Evelyn The Great. She’s one of the most aesthetic people on the planet and getting to hike with her and see her face and talk with her about books and God and music and writing and blogging was wonderful. [fun fact—Evelyn was our first blog follower other than our family members. She’s a special person.] 🙂

      1. I ended up trying this like, right after I read this. 😀 And it was so much fun! Except . . . I’m not sure they’d make sense to anyone but me. But it was amazing how I was able to use a few books to create an entire story. Bookbinder poetry is just . . . wow. ❤ Thank you so much for introducing me to it!!

      4. Aww!! 🙂 💛 I look forward to seeing them! To me, poetry doesn’t have to always make sense–it just has to make you feel something. Sometimes poetry is just making beautiful sounds with words!!

        Lol I know what you mean–I used to really dislike poetry! Haha

And I love how you both shared these with the crowd ❤ There's so much poetry just waiting to be found on a book shelf, and I caught myself trying different titles just to see after reading this ^.^ Thanks for bringing joy to my day, both of you ❤
